My Wonderful and Beautiful Family: Sophia turned 1

I am sure that my nieces are already sick of my camera.  They see it come out all the time, and I am sure their first instinct is to duck and cover, but I just can't help myself!  They are beautiful, inside and out, and each one has their own distinct personality.  I adore watching them, and I can't wait until the fourth arrives (another girl).  The youngest, is so curious and lovey.  She will just lay her head down in your lap and she watches her older sisters all the time.  She gets frustrated if they leave her behind because she wants to know what is going on with everything.  She has the best facial expressions, and she makes my heart just swell with love.  I was there when this little one was born, and I have gotten to see her grow.  She is special to my heart, and I adore her.  She is not just a little over one.  She is already walking very well, and she is already saying a few words.  She knows the word no and yes, and she loves to eat!

The middle child is a wonderful mess.  She is also very sweet, but she has a little rebellious spirit in her heart.  She is very stubborn and likes to have things her way.  It makes me giggle because I know that these things now may be hard, but when this child is older she is going to do amazing things for the Lord!  She will be strong in the faith.  She loves her Uncle Michael.  It is so funny.  For awhile, every time he would come around she would say, "I don't like you."  However, I don't think she knew what that meant because if he was present, nobody else mattered.
The oldest is not pictured because she got sick during the birthday party and had to be rushed to the doctor.  She is precious.  She is a great big sister and really does care for her siblings and for everyone around her.  Not only does she care, but she is so smart!  She loves to learn, and she is constantly asking questions and trying to find out more information.  I am blessed to call her my girl.  At bedtime, if I am at the house, my favorite thing to do is curl up beside her and just chit chat about her day.  She tells me about what her and her mom did and about what she loved most about the day and the worst part of the day.  We pray together, and we even get to sing together.  She is wonderful.

The Wonderful and Beautiful P Family

This family has been such a blessing to me through the years of my life, especially my early years as a believer.  I have seen this family grown, as they have seen me grow.  Their youngest child was just a baby when I first met them, and now she is such a beautiful kid turning into a young woman (one of those six going on 18 types).  They are precious.  They have two wonderful adopted children that have fit in with the family so well that we do not even really think of them as adopted any longer.  This whole family is so special, and I have seen God bless them beyond belief in the last years.

This photo shoot was way too fun.  After speaking with the mother for an hour or so about different diet things, I got to go outside with the kiddos and just have fun.  Photo shoots should be fun right?  They should not include painful jumping around trying to get the kids to smile at a yellow duck (no offense meant, my husband has done lots of jumping behind my back while trying to take pictures).  However, shoots take time and creativity, and these kids had plenty of both.  They were not in a hurry, and they were leading the show by the end of the shoot.  They told me all the places they wanted their photos done, and all the props they wanted.  They pretty much knew what they wanted, and I just went with what pleased them.  It turned out great!  So much fun, great family, and in the end great pictures.

Precious Baby

Children are a blessing from God himself, and motherhood is an honor.  I am reminded of these two truths when I come in contact with mothers (esp. new mothers), and their precious children.  To see the love between a mother and their child is one thing, but to be invited into their homes and lives to capture that love is something entirely different and a huge blessing!

I met this family through a friend.  The mother and father were both troopers.  They didn't seem anxious at all when I picked up their newborn and went outside.  They were so willing and very helpful.  They also have a precious three-year-old who is a very protective older brother.  He made sure as soon as I got there that I wasn't allowed to touch his little brother. :)  However, once the newness wore off he was much more willing and even told me that I could take pictures in his bedroom if I wanted.

We had such a great time, and the newborn did amazing!  I mean, seriously, he stayed asleep almost the entire time allowing me the freedom to move him and place him just like I wanted.  It went so well, and I am excited to see this lovely family again.  Truth is, newborns are never EASY, but when you have a family that is this trusting and willing, it makes the shooting process much more enjoyable.  Congratulations to the Laymons, and may there be many more children in your future.

What do you do when you have three boys? Play

Recently, I had the privilege of shooting this beautiful family.  Their outsides are definitely beautiful, but the love in their home and the freedom they showcase to others is overwhelming!  I met both parents in college, and this was the first time I was blessed to meet their three (yes THREE) boys! I hope they have a ton more because it is so obvious that these boys are loved.  The mother of this family may be rolling her eyes at me right now.

I had the most amazing time shooting this family.  We had a blast, and they were definitely not afraid to let their boys play.  This made the shoot much more entertaining!  The mother of this family definitely has her hands full, but she is so hospitable and kind.  She welcomed me and my assistant into her home, and even took the time to show me around her new home!
Her boys adore her!  It is so easy to see that they love their momma!  The father of this family is too funny.  He definitely is training his little boys to be men one day.  His boys seemed to be afraid of little, and they were so curious about everything.  (Except, once they knew what I was there for it seemed as if they were not all that interested in sitting still so that I could take their picture.)  So what do you do when children want to play... you let them play!

Play pictures make the best memories anyways!

He is the Giver of Life

Each time I pick up my camera, and every time I get a phone call to schedule an appointment, I fall more and more in love with my job.  Life is beautiful, and I am happy to serve the Creator of life by capturing moments in time.  I strive to know all I can know about the art of photography so that the images that I create properly reflect His grace, His love, and His mercy.
Meet Blake.  He is a precious boy put on this Earth for what I am sure is a great purpose!  He is beautiful, and I enjoyed getting to hold this precious baby while trying to create the images that his parents would treasure for a life time.  Of course, newborns are rarely easy.  A proper newborn shoot takes time, patience, understanding, and honestly,  a lot of prayer.  Each time I settle down with a newborn God reveals another fruit of the spirit that He is creating within me.  Children have a way of bringing out the best in us because through them, we are CHALLENGED and AMAZED.

I am thankful for the time that I got to spend with Blake and his mother and father.  This little boy is so beautiful and so special.  Today, celebrate the beauty of life.

Mark and Kate Wedding: The Details

Every time I take a step into the photography field, I learn so much about the importance of well... pictures.  Think about a house fire, or maybe you have had one so you know first hand.  We cry over the loss of material possessions, but they can be replaced.  It is the family pictures from long ago or even recently that we dread losing.  Pictures help us to remember the details, the faces, the emotions, and the times in our lives that seem to run by so quickly.  I remember bits and pieces of my wedding day, but it is when I get to look back at the details that brings me to tears of joy.   Sorry for the sappy moment, but people would not be willing to have professional photographers if pictures were not important.

Recently, I had the chance to second shoot a couple of weddings with my dear friend Katie from KatieO photography.  You should check out her page www.facebook.com/katieOphotography
During the shoot, my dear friend Katie was giving me major pointers on capturing the details of a wedding.  (This is why have a second photographer is also good).  When the day is done it is nice to look back and see exactly what did the table arrangements look like, or what did my Dad's face look like when he first saw me in my dress?  Details are important.  You have spent so much money and time making every little detail stand out and look like your personality. It is important to remember those and have them available to share with friends.
